The gold standard
Not all gold is created equal. We believe in complete transparency about what goes into your everyday pieces. Here is a simple guide to understanding jewellery materials, and why gold-filled is our absolute favourite.
Gold Plated
- The Fast Fashion Choice. A microscopic layer of gold flash-plated over a base metal.
- Highly prone to tarnishing and fading, often losing its color within a few months of wear.
Gold Vermeil
- The Sterling Alternative. A thicker layer of gold plating over a sterling silver base.
- A good option for highly sensitive skin, though the gold layer will still eventually rub off and expose the silver underneath.
Gold-Filled
- The Everyday Essential. A thick, solid layer of real gold mechanically pressure-bonded to a jeweller's brass core.
- Contains up to 100x more gold than standard plating.
- Highly durable, shower-safe, and tarnish-resistant. With proper care, it can last for years.
Solid Gold
- The Heirloom Investment. Crafted entirely from a solid gold alloy (usually 14k or 18k).
- Will never tarnish or fade, but comes with a significantly higher price tag that isn't always practical for everyday stacking.
In the spirit of choosing better
